Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Hampden-Sydney swept Sunday's doubleheader from the Bridgewater College Eagles, winning the opener 12-5 and taking the second game 4-0.
The two teams entered Sunday's game tied for fifth place in the conference standings. The Eagles are now 10-11 overall and 9-10 in the ODAC. The Tigers improve to 16-10 overall and 11-8 in conference play.
After the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the opener after their first at-bat, the Eagles tied the score with a run in the bottom of the second inning on Kevin Navedo's solo homer.
Hampden-Sydney regained the lead with two runs ine top of the third, but the Eagles got one run back in the bottom half of the inning. Collin Reid led off with a single and moved to second on Isaiah Blanks' sacrifice bunt. Reid scored on Brett Tharp's single, pulling the Eagles to within 3-2.
Bridgewater took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Navedo walked to lead off the inning, moved to second on Jonathan Sexton's sacrifice bunt and took third on a wild pitch. Navedo scored when Jacob Grabeel was safe on a throwing error, tying the score at 3-3. Reid then belted a two-run homer to put the Eagles up 5-3.
Hampden-Sydney tied the score with two runs in the fifth and grabbed the lead, 6-5, with a run in the sixth. The Tigers broke the game ipen with a six-run outburst in the seventh to take the 12-5 victory.
The Eagles were limited to seven hits in the opener, two each by Tharp and Reid.
In the second game, Tigers' starter Justin Woodall pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout to help the visitors complete the sweep.
Bridgewater is back in action Wednesday for its final home game of the season when it hosts Washington and Lee.
