Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College ran its winning streak to four straight by taking both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Guilford, winning the opener 13-6 and the second game 15-3.
The Eagles pounded out 38 hits in the two games and Kevin Navedo homered in each game as the Eagles improved to 10-8 overall and 9-7 in the ODAC.
Bridgewater jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings in the first game and were in control the rest of the way.
Jeffrey Snider and Jonathan Sexton delivered run-scoring singles in the top of the first for a quick 2-0 lead. After adding a run in the second, the Eagles added four more runs in the third to open a 7-0 lead. Navedo led off the third with a double and Sexton followed with a run-scoring double to make it 3-0. Sexton scored on an error and Timothy Hopson plated two runs with a double to complete the four-run third inning.
Guilford got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Eagles answered in the top of the fourth with a run-scoring single by Sexton, making the score 8-1.
The lead grew to 10-1 in the fifth on a two-run single by Brett Tharp.
Guilford scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to trail 10-4, but the Eagles added single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull ahad 13-4.
Navedo led off the sixth with a homer and he added a run-scoring double in the seventh. Hunter Clever belted a solo homer in the eighth to complete the Bridgewater scoring.
Sexton led the offense in the opener with a 4-for-5 effort and three RBIs. Navedo added a 3-for-4 outing with two runs batted in. Jacob Grabeel was 3-for-4 and Hopson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Hunter Mohr worked the first five innings to pick up the win on the mound. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits. Mohr struck out six and walked two.
The Eagles snapped a 3-3 tie in Game 2 with three runs in the fourth and then blew the game open with a six-run outburst in the seventh inning.
Jarret Biesecker led off the second game with a single and moved to third on a single by Snider. Navedo scored Biesecker with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
After Guilford tied the score with a run in the bottom of the first, Bridgewater moved ahead with two runs in the top of the third. The Eagles loaded the sacks on consecutive singles by Biesecker, Tharp and Snider to start the inning. A single by Navedo scored two runs to put the Eagles up 3-1.
The Quakers once again tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Eagles regained the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Hopson doubled and a single by Biesecker put runners on the corners. A single by Tharp scored Hopson and a base hit by Snider plated Biesecker to make the score 5-3. After Snider stole second, Navedo walked to load the bases. A sac fly by Sexton scored Tharp, giving Bridgewater a 6-3 advantage.
The score remained 6-3 until the seventh when the Eagles put the game away with a six-run inning. With one out, the Eagles loaded the bases on singles by Brandan Hartman, Clever and Grabeel. After Hopson was hit by a pitch to force in a run, Biesecker's RBI-single put the Eagles up 8-3. Tharp was hit by a pitch to force in another run before Snider chased two runs home with a single, increasing the cushion to 11-3. Tharp later scored on a wild pitch, giving BC a 12-3 lead.
Biesecker drove in two more runs in the eighth inning and Navedo hit a solo homer in the ninth to finish off the 15-3 victory.
Biesecker paced the Eagles' 21-hit barrage, going 5-for-6 in Game 2 with three RBIs. Snider was 4-for-6 with two RBIs while Tharp was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in. Navedo continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 game and four RBIs. Clever had three hits while Hartman and Grabeel each added two base hits.
Waring Garber allowed three runs in the first four innings before four relievers combined to blank the Quakers over the final five innings.
William Flanagan picked up the win with three shutout innings. Flanagan allowed three hits while striking out five and walking one batter. Keegan Oliver worked a scoreless eighth inning before Bryce Masters struck out both hitters he faced to start the ninth. Kyle Carlson recorded the final our of the game.
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Winchester to face Shenandoah University.
