Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Ferrum outscored BC 4-2 over the final quarter of the game to edge the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team 14-12 on Saturday.
Lauren Roberts tied the game at 10-10 with 20:36 remaining on a two-man advantage following a pair of Ferrum cards.
Reagan Aldridge's goal with 14:26 remaining in the second half started a three-goal unanswered run for the visitors however. Goals from Annika Benson (after a crucial caused turnover from Hannah Sherin) and Roberts made it a one-goal game with 2:16 remaining but the Panthers won the draw and Aldridge tallied again with 39 seconds left.
Roberts totaled five goals, an assist, five draw controls and three caused turnovers for Bridgewater. Ashley Venit had four points on two goals and two assists and Jodie Welsh added two goals, one assist, three ground balls and eight draw controls. Mikaela Brooks made 17 saves, including 10 in the second half, reaching 400 for her career.
The Eagles led 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in the early going.
After Ferrum missed wide on a transition opportunity, Bridgewater countered the other way and Roberts assisted Venit to open the scoring. Madeline Magill soon scored on the man advantage to make it 3-2.
Ferrum took its first lead of the game by scoring twice just 12 seconds apart, converting right off the draw to make it 4-3 with 19:06 left in the first half.
The Panthers led 7-5 and had an Eagle player off for a yellow card, but Brooks made her third save of the possession to avoid falling further behind. Roberts snuck a free position shot just over the goalline to get Bridgewater back within one.
The Eagles scored three straight to take a lead late in the first half, tying it on a Brooke Hanson free position and going ahead of Roberts' eight-meter. The Panthers tied it at 8-8 heading into the break.
Bridgewater falls to 3-6, 3-4 ODAC and will wrap up the regular season at Washington & Lee on Wednesday. Ferrum improves to 9-4, 4-3 and clinches the program's first ODAC playoff berth.
