BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team picked up a crucial ODAC win over Lynchburg Thursday night to move to 4-4 in the conference.
Before the start of the match, the Eagles honored the squad's lone senior Jyailah Friendly on Senior Day.
Lynchburg controlled majority of the opening frame, holding a 17-14 lead. Several Hornet errors tied the set and a Lisa O'Grady kill put Bridgewater up 19-17. The teams battled back and forth, and Lynchburg had set point at 24-23. The Hornets missed a game point serve and the Eagles capitlized earning the next two points and taking a 1-0 advantage on a Lauren Nofsinger kill.
Bridgewater earned its most dominant set win in the second set, taking down the Hornets 25-16 while also recording their best hitting percentage of the night.
The vistiors stormed back to take set three and were on the verge of pushing a fifth and final set. With Lynchburg up 20-16 in the fourth set, Sienna Sullivan went on an eight point service run, highlighted by two blocks from Lauren Nofsinger and Hope Jennings to earn the thrilling comeback set win and take the match 3-1.
O'Grady paced the Eagles with 10 kills followed by Jennings with seven and Nofsinger and Ashley Casey with six. Grace Hayes had a double-double with a team high 17 digs to go with 30 assists. Friendly contributed 14 digs while Casey and Jennings posted 13 and 12, respectively.
With the win, the Eagles position themselves at seventh in the current ODAC standings. The team returns to action on Saturday, April 17 when they host a tri-match with Randolph and Guilford.
