Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader to Roanoke, losing the opener 7-4 and dropping the second game 9-4.
The Eagles are now 6-8 overall and 5-7 in ODAC play.
Bridgewater scored single runs in the first, second and third innings to lead 3-2 in the first game.
After Roanoke scored one run in the top of the first, Jeffrey Snider drove in a run in the bottom of the inning with a double to tie the score at 1-1.
The Maroons added their second run in the top of the second, but once again the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning Jonathan Sexton doubled with one out and moved to third on Brandan Hartman's single. Timothy Hopson's sacrifice bunt scored Sexton to tie the score at 2-2.
The Eagles grabbed the lead with a run in the third. Hunter Clever was hit by a pitch and moved to second on Snider's sac bunt. Kevin Navedo chased Clever home with a double for a 3-2 Eagles' lead.
Roanoke scored five runs in the middle three innings to lead 7-3 and the Maroons held off the Eagles to take the 7-4 victory.
Roanoke grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second game before the Eagles tallied once in the third inning on Navedo's solo homer to cut the lead in half.
Two runs in the bottom of the fifth put the Eagles up 3-2. Bridgewater loaded the bases with no outs as Snider singled, Navedo reached on an error and Hartman walked. Jacob Grabeel's ground ball scored Snider and a groundout by Sexton scored Navedo to give Bridgewater a 3-2 lead.
Roanoke regained the lead, 4-3, with two runs in the seventh and then broke the game open with a five-run outburst in the eighth, highlighted by Carter Plunkett's three-run homer.
Bridgewater returns to action Tuesday when the Eagles host rival Eastern Mennonite.
