ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 6-1 lead in beating Randolph-Macon for the first time, 15-9.
Connor McLean had two goals and five assists, while Eric Husselbaugh and Chris Martel added hat tricks. Hunter Becker and Justin Calabrese each had two goals and two assists.
Alesandro Gargano and Mason Gauntt each picked up a game-high six ground balls, with Grayson Rech totaling four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Robbie Noyes made 13 saves in the cage.
The Eagles scored five straight in the first quarter to open up an early 6-1 advantage. The run started with Calabrese's man-up goal, with Calabrese adding another to sandwich a goal from Martel.
Husselbaugh scored BC's second power play goal of the period, and Martel scored Bridgewater's fifth in a span of under seven minutes, off Kyle Graham's assist.
The Yellow Jackets showed signs of a rally twice, cutting that 6-1 scoreline to 6-4 at the half, and later edging to within three after Bridgewater took a five-point fourth quarter lead.
Both times Bridgewater responded. Becker, Husselbaugh, McLean and Graham recorded four straight to open the second half and stretch the lead back to 10-4. BC then responded with the game's final three goals after RMC got it to 12-9 with 8:47 remaining in the game.
Bridgewater is 1-3, 1-3 ODAC and will travel to Shenandoah on Wednesday.
