Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - Bridgewater jumped out to an early 4-0 lead Wednesday afternoon over Eastern Mennonite but the Royals stormed back to defeat the Eagles 16-7 in ODAC action.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the first inning. With two outs and no one on base, Jeffrey Snider tripled to keep the inning alive. Hunter Clever walked and then stole second. Kevin Navedo followed with a single, scoring Snider for a 1-0 Eagles lead. Clever then scored on a failed pickoff attempt, making the score 2-0.
Bridgewater added two more runs in the second. Mason Mitchell walked to lead off the inning, but was out at second on Jonathan Sexton's ground ball to second. Timothy Hopson singled to put runners on first and second and both runners advanced on a groundout by Jarret Biesecker. Both runners scored when Jacob Grabeel's ground ball to short was misplayed for an error,, giving Bridgewater a 4-0 lead.
Eastern Mennonite scored three runs in the third to make it a one-run game and the Royals took the lead, 7-4, with four runs in the fourth.
The Eagles got a run back in the top of the fifth when Navedo doubled and later scored on a groundout by Mitchell, trimming the Royals lead to 7-5. Six more runs in the fifth inning, however, increased the EMU cushion to 13-5.
Navedo and Sexton each had two hits for the Eagles.
Bridgewater, now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the ODAC, returns to action Saturday when the Eagles travel to Ferrum for a doubleheader.
