Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team played a third straight close game with an ODAC contender, before W&L pulled ahead with a third quarter rally to win 10-7.
Hayden Gourley fed Chris Martel to tie the contest at 5-5 with 12:04 left in the third quarter. Eric Husselbaugh scored from Hunter Becker 54 seconds later, and then Husselbaugh added a man-up goal to give Bridgewater a 7-5 lead over a Generals team that was nationally-ranked a week prior.
The Generals answered with four goals in just 95 seconds however.
A cross-checking penalty gave W&L a man-up opportunity to convert, and Bridgewater couldn't clear on the next possession as Robbie Noyes made three saves before the hosts finally struck with the tying goal. The Generals scored right off the next two faceoffs as well to surge ahead 9-7.
Martel had a hat trick to lead the Eagle attack, with Husselbaugh scoring twice and Gourley totaling two assists. Noyes made 14 saves in the cage, with Bridgewater forcing Jack Taylor into 14 stops at the other end.
The Eagles came from behind four separate times before the decisive third quarter W&L run.
Martel scored twice in the first quarter, the second off an assist from Justin Calabrese, to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Mason Gauntt made it 3-3 and Connor McLean scored for a 4-4 scoreline, both in the second quarter. Washington & Lee's 5-4 lead was erased by Martel as part of Bridgewater's surge early in the third.
The Eagles (0-3, 0-3 ODAC) continue a challenging early season schedule with a trip to Randolph-Macon on Saturday.
