Marlins Down Eagles, 7-2, In Men's Tennis Action

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team opened its ODAC season Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 7-2 at Virginia Wesleyan.

The Marlins swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead and then closed out the match by winning four of the six singles flights.

Two of the three doubles matches were tightly contested. At No. 1, Virginia Wesleyan's Mitchell Perry and Feliz Bevc edged Canon Second and Matthew Gordon 8-6. At the No. 2 slot, Bridgewater's Nick Kiser and Gabe Elder dropped a close 8-5 decision to Wesleyan's Anthony Wilson and Henry West. 

Bridgewater picked up its points at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

Secord took the win at the top flight, defeating Perry 6-2, 6-3. Elder was victorious in his collegiate singles debut with a split set win over West. Elder dropped the first set 6-4 but evened the match by slipping past West in the second set 7-6. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Elder winning 10-5.
