Women's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds of Regulation

STAUNTON, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team fell in the final seconds of regulation to the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin in their season opener on Friday night.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles held a slim 18-16 edge after the first quarter behind a balanced offense with seven players scoring in the first frame led by Jaden Alsberry with five points
  • Behind a strong press and nine points from Erika Nettles, the Eagles were able to extend their lead to 34-28 heading to the half
  • The Fighting Squirrels took the lead in the third quarter to go up by two at 47-45 entering the fourth quarter
  • The fourth quarter was dictated by both squads' defenses. With the score tied 62-62 with seven seconds remaining in the game, Mary Baldwin made a jump shot to go up 64-62 with three seconds on the clock to ultimately seal the victory
