Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Bridgewater College broke open a close game Wednesday with seven runs in the fourth inning and the Eagles went on to take a 14-9 ODAC victory over Washington and Lee.
The Eagles (11-4, 2-1 in the ODAC) took the lead with a two-run single in the top of the first by JT Creed, but the Generals answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Bridgewater struck again with four runs in the top of the second inning to regain the lead. With one out, the Eagles loaded the bases on walks to Jake Dudley and Jacob Grabeel and a single by Jarret Biesecker. Jacob Talley followed with a long, grand-slam homer to left, putting the Eagles back on top 6-4.
After W&L trimmed the margin to 6-5, the Eagles pulled further ahead with the seven-run fourth. Creed and Jeffrey Snider delivered run-scoring singles and Dudley belted a two-run double to deep center. Grabeel added a run-scoring single and two more runs scored on wild pitches as the Eagles opened up a 13-5 lead.
Waring Garber picked up the victory on the mound as he slowed the Generals' offense during the middle innings. Garber pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs. Tucker Hrasky and Evan Gagne finished up as the duo combined to limit W&L to two runs in the final 3.2 innings.
Talley finished 4-for-6 with four RBIs and Creed was 2-for-5 with three runs batted in. Snider was 3-for-5 at the plate and Biesecker was 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they host Ferrum for a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
