Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Eagle defense kept it even for nearly two-thirds of the contest, but the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell 12-5 to Marymount on Saturday.
Mikaela Brooks helped keep the Eagles in the game, saving eight of the first 11 shots she saw as the teams were tied 3-3 with under 22 minutes to play. She finished with 11 saves and four ground balls. Mackenzie Parcell had five caused turnovers, while Dwyer Neal forced four.
Marymount goalie Meagan Gagnon made six saves of her own, with midfielder Emily Peters forcing five turnovers along with a hat trick at the other end.
On a freezing, windy day, neither side scored for nearly four minutes. Neal had a nice stick check at one end, but Caitlyn Dunn forced a turnover on the other side and Sarah Agrillo opened the scoring for Marymount.
Brooks made a nice stop up high on a Peters free position shot, with Agrillo scoring again soon afterwards for a 2-0 Marymount advantage.
Madeline Magill got Bridgewater on the board with 20:19 left in the first off a nice feed from Shannon Rogers.
A long back and forth stretch of almost 10 minutes did not feature a single goal, until MU's Riley Love converted a free position shot with 10:46 remaining in the first.
Another long scoreless stretch followed, reaching 16 minutes long and into the second half before Jacqueline DiFulvio snuck a shot through the goalie's legs and just over the line.
Bridget O'Donnell then tied the game at 3-3 with 22:57 left, off an assist from Allison Burris.
The Saints broke through at that point, with Peters giving them the lead for good and then assisting Agrillo less than two minutes later. Marymount pushed the gap to 7-3 with four goals in a stretch of just over four minutes.
Bridgewater (1-2) will now head to Tennessee for Spring Break, with the Eagles playing Widener on Tuesday in a neutral site game before facing host Sewanee on Thursday. Marymount improves to 3-0, with two of those victories coming vs. ODAC opposition.
