Box Score EMORY, Va. - Emory & Henry used a key 15-2 run in the final quarter to overtake Bridgewater College for an 84-79 victory in the final game of the regular season late Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles held a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but that margin was quickly erased as the Wasps opened the final period with four quick points. Ahlia Moone scored four straight points to restore Bridgewater's four-point lead, 67-63, but once again the Wasps rallied to even the score at 67-67.
This time Eagles' freshman guard Mary Ruth Shifflett knocked down a 3-pointer for a 70-67 Bridgewater lead with 7:29 remaining in the game. The Eagles then went cold from the field and the Wasps took control with the pivotal 15-2 run to open up an 82-72 lead with just one minute left to play.
The Eagles weren't finished as Moone scored seven straight points to make it a one-possession game, 82-79, with seven seconds left. Alexis Hoppers then made two free throws with two seconds left to ice the 84-79 victory for the Wasps.
Moone poured in 27 points to lead the Eagles' offense. Madison Baum scored 11 points and Kayla Darr added 10. Hoppers and Peyton Williams both finished with 20 points to pace the Wasps.
Bridgewater finishes the regular season with a 14-11 overall record and an 13-5 mark in the ODAC. The Eagles will be the No. 3 seed in the ODAC tournament and will play sixth-seeded Roanoke in the final quarterfinal game Thursday evening at the Salem Civic Center. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
