Eagles Win Game 2 To Split With Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Guilford and held on to defeat the Quakers 12-9 to earn a split on the day. Guilford won the opener 6-3.

With two outs and no one on in the first inning of Game 2, Luke Paczewski walked and Brett Jones singled. Cameron Stanley plated a run with a double and Kevin Navedo followed with a run-scoring single to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

After Guilford tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the first, Bridgewater took the lead for good with a run in the second on Jacob Grabeel's sacrifice fly, making the score 3-2.

The Eagles scored five runs in the top of the third to lead 8-2. Jones led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Stanley for a 4-2 lead. Navedo singled tp put runners on the corners and, after a strikeout, Matthew LaPrade singled to score Stanley. Navedo then trotted home on a double by Timothy Hopson, giving the Eagles a 6-2 lead. Biesecker chased home a run with a single and Grabeel added another sac fly for an 8-2 Eagles lead.

The Quakers responded in the bottom of the third with four runs, two unearned, to cut the margin to 8-6, but the Eagles added three runs in the fifth to expand the lead.

Bridgewater loaded the sacks in the fifth with no outs on singles by Biesecker and Grabeel and a walk to Paczewski. Jones walked to force in a run and Stanley plated a run with a sacrifice fly for a 10-6 BC lead. With two outs, Phillip Herber walked to reload the bases and LaPrade was hit by a pitch to force home another run, making the score 11-6.

After Guilford scored two in the sixth to move closer, the Eagles scored their final run in the eight. LaPrade and Hopson opened the eighth with singles and both advanced on Biesecker's sacrifice bunt. LaPrade scored on a groundout by Grabeel for a 12-8 lead.

The Quakers added a run in the bottom of the eighth before the Eagles closed out the victory.

Freshman righthander Hunter Mohr picked up the win with five innings of work. Mohr allowed six-runs, just two earned, on four hits. Ryan Skadra allowed no hits over the final 1.2 innings to earn the save.

Biesecker, Navedo and LaPrade each had three hits to pace the Eagles' 18-hit attack. Grabeel and Stanley each finished with three RBIs.

In the opener, Guilford scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off the Eagles the rest of the way.

The Eagles got on the board in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Biesecker to trail 5-1.

Bridgewater inched closer with two more runs in the third. With one out, Jones singled and moved to second on a single by Stanley. Navedo singled to center, scoring Jones and JT Creed followed with a single through the left side, scoring Stanley to pull Bridgewater to within 5-3.

Guilford tallied a run in the fourth to lead 6-3. The Quakers blanked the Eagles the rest of the way to take the victory.

Biesecker, Stanley and Navedo had two hits each in the opener with Biesecker and Navedo each driving home a run.

Bridgewater (10-18, 4-9 in the ODAC) returns to action Tuesday when the Eagles travel to Shenandoah.
