Women's Lacrosse Loses Senior Day Game to Lynchburg

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team lost its 2019 Senior Day game, 17-8 to Lynchburg on Saturday.

Seniors Anna O'Hara (three goals, four caused turnovers) and Kristen Stark (two goals, three caused turnovers) led the Eagles at both ends of the field, while sophomore goalie Mikaela Brooks totaled 17 saves and eight ground balls.

Senior Sarah Yashinskie- the school's record holder in the category- won the opening draw control, leading to a Jacqueline DiFulvio shot that was saved. Emily Jencks caused a turnover at the other end, but Shannon Rogers was also saved from close range after the Hornets had recorded the opening goal.

Trailing 2-0, Stark got the Eagles on the board with a free position shot. She had another eight-meter opportunity soon after, and this time instead of shooting found a wide-open DiFulvio to tie the game at 2-2.

The Eagles were held to just one goal over the final 23:24 of the first half. Brooks kept them in it early, saving eight of the first 11 shots she saw.

The Hornets caused 13 turnovers in the first half, a majority of them on failed clears, to go on a late first half run and enter the break leading 11-3.

Defender Melissa Wilson scored with 22:22 left in the second half to make it 13-4, and Jencks followed with a goal less than two minutes later.

It was Senior Day for Bridgewater's four graduating student-athletes (Stark, O'Hara, Yashinskie and Phoebe Hart), who have compiled a career record of 34-34, including a #19 national ranking early last spring.

The group helped lead BC to ODAC postseason berths in 2016, 2017 and 2018- the first three playoff spots for the program since 2004. The class also features three 100-point and 100-goal scorers (Stark, O'Hara, Yashinskie).

Bridgewater is 4-12, 3-5 ODAC and will wrap up its season on Wednesday at Randolph-Macon.
