HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team dropped a close match to Friday to Baldwin-Wallace, 6-3.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead after three closely contested doubles matches.
Bridgewater picked up a point at No. 2 doubles where Freddie Roberts and Sonet Gandhi defeated Jake Elbin and Roger Boyer 8-5. Baldwin-Wallace took close wins in the two remaining matches. At No. 1, Dominic Polifrone and Matt Harris edged Canon Secord and Matthew Gordon, 8-6. Eddie Schartman and Ben Binion outlasted Bridgewater's Nicholas Kiser and Robert Williard, 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 8-6.
The Yellow Jackets moved closer to the win by taking points at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Harris defeated Gordon 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 slot while Elbin downed Roberts 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Bridgewater stayed alive when Secord stopped Polifrone 6-0, 6-4 to win at No. 1. The Yellow Jackets scored the clinching point when Boyer defeated Kiser 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The Yellow Jackets added their final point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory by Michael Benotti over Gandhi at No. 4 singles.
Bridgewater added its final point when Williard won in split sets over Schartman at No. 6. Williard won the first set 7-5, but Schartman evened the match with a 7-6 win in the second set. Williard won the tiebreaker 10-5 to decide the winner.
