Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – The #19 Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team dropped its ODAC opener, losing 10-6 at Lynchburg on Saturday.
Freshman goalie Mikaela Brooks, the conference leader in save percentage, stopped 20 of 30 shots on target but the Eagles couldn't overcome a slow start offensively.
Kayla O'Sullivan had a hat trick while also leading the Eagles in caused turnovers (three), draw controls (five) and ground balls (two).
Bridgewater didn't score until the final second of the first half, when O'Sullivan took the draw control and went down the field to get the Eagles on the board.
Lynchburg had stretched their lead to 6-0 with nine seconds left in the first half, on a goal by Carly Sandler.
Bridgewater made a run in the second half, getting two goals from O'Sullivan and one from Neal to cut it to 9-6 with 8:58 still remaining.
The Eagles then had a chance to cut it to two after a Lynchburg yellow card but couldn't put a shot on target on the man-advantage, missing a shot wide and then turning the ball over.
Bridgewater falls to 5-1, 0-1 ODAC after earning a national ranking from Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine on Monday. Lynchburg, who has eliminated BC from the past two conference tournaments, is 2-5, 1-0 ODAC.
