Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College scored the first 29 points of the game Saturday afternoon and the Eagles went on to defeat Emory & Henry 53-13 in ODAC football action.

The Eagles improve to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC while E&H drops to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Bridgewater scored on its first two possessions to take a 15-0 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles drove right down to score on the game's opening possession, capping the drive on a Demetreus Jalepes 6-yard run

The Bridgewater defense forced a quick three-and-out and a punting situation for the Wasps. Davonta Womack returned the punt 26 yards to give the Eagles excellent field position at the E&H 37. On a third-and-13 play, Jay Scroggins connected with Devonte Smith for a 14-yard completion and a first down at the Wasps' 12. A late hit on the play moved the ball to the 6-yard line where Grant Monson caught a TD pass from Jay Scroggins and BC converted the two-pointer on a run by Dakoda Shrader to make it 15-0 in the first quarter.

The Eagles made it 22-0 when Jarrod Denham broke a loose on a 41-yard run early in the second quarter.

Bridgewater's special teams set up the next score when the Eagles' defense forced another three-and-out by the Wasps' offense. With the Wasps in punt formation, the Eagles' rush forced punter Garrett Morgan to tuck the ball away and run. Morgan came up short of the first down, giving the Eagles possession at the E&H 35.

Scroggins hit Trey Stephens with a 25-yard strike for a first down at the E&H 10. A personal foul gave the Eagles a first down at the 6-yard line and two plays later Alex Galloway found paydirt from 3 yards out, making the score 29-0.

The Wasps tallied late in the half on a 10-yard run by Robert Henesey to cut the margin to 29-6. The touchdown was set up by a 79-yard pass play from Jake Sturgill to Max Yates.

Bridgewater scored in one play after an Emory & Henry punt early in the third quarter. Trey Stephens caught a pass from Scroggins and broke losse on an 89-yard catch-and-run to make it 36-6.

Logan Weis followed that with a field goal, and the barrage continued as Galloway's second score of the day, this one a 21-yard run, made it 46-6, still in the third quarter.

Brendon Maturey carried the ball in from seven yards out on the first snap of the fourth, giving the hosts a 53-6 lead.

Scroggins had an efficient day behind center, completing 10-of-15 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Bridgewater rushed for 303 yards with seven different ball-carriers gaining at least 25 yards on the day.

Bridgewater rolled up 534 yards total offense and the Eagles' defense held the visitors to 286 yards.
