BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team defeated Lynchburg 3-1 on Wednesday to advance to the semifinal round of the ODAC tournament.

The first set was tight from the start until a Madison Haynes service run and several Hornet errors gave the Eagles a solid 20-15 advantage. They would maintain that lead and hold on for the set win on an Allison Clark kill. 

The Hornets held the advantage for the majority of the second set, leading 18-14 at one point. The Eagles persisted and were able to tie the match at 23-23 behind kills from Haynes and Clark plus a Taylor McNeely service ace. Haynes would put the set away on a kill to give the Eagles a two set lead.

Lynchburg jumped out to an early advantage in set three and never looked back, taking it 25-19.

It looked to be going to a fifth set as the Hornets were up again set four. Jenna Hamra, taking on the role of setter for the Eagles for the first time since her sophomore year, served six consecutive balls to give the Eagles their first lead in the fourth at 17-16. Bridgewater never looked back in the set as Deja Booker ended it on a kill to send the Eagles to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

Rachel Gaston had a team high 11 kills and 14 digs. Haynes put down 10 kills with zero errors, while Hamra contributed 37 assists with nine digs.

Bridgewater moves to 24-6 on the season. They will play the Generals of Washington and Lee at 7:30 at Randolph-Macon on Friday. The winner of that match will advance to Sunday for a chance at the ODAC championship.
