Box Score SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team had a chance to tie late, but came up just short in a 9-8 ODAC loss at Roanoke on Saturday.
Trailing by three with 3:07 remaining, sophomore Anna O'Hara scored to cut the deficit to 9-7.
O'Hara won the ensuing draw control and worked the ball around, with Sarah Yashinskie assisting Annie Sullivan to make it a one goal game, as over two minutes still remained.
Roanoke won the draw but turned it over, and the Eagles had a chance to force their third overtime game in under a month. Kristen Stark shot wide, and Dwyer Neal's final opportunity was stopped by Maroons goalie Emma Blair (nine saves).
O'Hara had a hat trick to go with two ground balls and two draw controls. Yashinskie and Sullivan each had a goal and an assist.
Roanoke led 6-2 late in the first half but Stark ended the opening period with a goal and O'Hara scored on a free position soon after the break.
The hosts hit the post early in the second half however, and restored their three-goal advantage three straight times through Courtney McCartin, Hannah Taylor and Morgan Barlow, before BC attempted to rally late.
Neal had the tied the contest at 1-1 in the first half, and Sullivan assisted O'Hara to stop a three-goal Roanoke spurt that gave the Maroons an early 4-1 advantage.
Bridgewater falls to 6-4, 1-2 ODAC and will face Virginia Wesleyan (Wednesday at home) and Guilford (Saturday away) next week in games that will be crucial for the Eagles' postseason push. Roanoke improves to 3-9 overall, but 3-1 in ODAC play.
