Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Lynchburg put themselves in the driver's seat to grab home field advantage in what could be an ODAC quarterfinal matchup, beating the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team 10-5 on Saturday.
Kayla O'Sullivan, Brittney Brown, Mackenzie Parcell and Kristen Stark each caused two turnovers for the Eagles, with O'Sullivan adding four ground balls.
Lynchburg ran off five goals in a span of under five minutes in the first half, including three in 60 seconds.
Alicia Sandoval beat her defender to get the Hornets on the board, and two straight goals by Alexa Carey made it 3-1.
Sandoval's goal made it three in exactly a minute for Lynchburg. She then hit the post, leading to Stark causing a turnover and going end-to-end to stop the Hornet run.
The Eagles had started the first half well before the five-goal run. Dwyer Neal bounced in an early shot to open the scoring. Sarah Yashinskie caused a turnover at the other end, and on the next possession Rachel Gruber made a nice save to deny Kelsey Nock from close range.
Anna O'Hara's one-touch finish of Annie Sullivan's pass and a drive from Yashinskie down the right side got Bridgewater back into the game before halftime, as BC trailed by three at the break.
Lynchburg goalie Chelsea Shultis racked up 15 saves to just five goals allowed, and prevented the Eagles from getting back in it in the second half. She tipped a Claire Palermo-Re shot off the post and clear, and then made another good save on Stark after the Hornets added two more.
Lynchburg was able to stall for good portions of the remainder of the contest, with Shannon Rogers finally recording BC's first goal of the second half on a counterattack with 7:35 remaining.
Bridgewater and Lynchburg are now tied for fourth place in the ODAC at 4-3, with the Hornets holding head-to-head tiebreaker. A three-way logjam with Guilford is still possible as well, with Bridgewater and Lynchburg holding matching +4 goal differentials in that tie.
The Eagles are 9-5 overall and will travel to face first place Washington & Lee on Wednesday.
