Women's Lacrosse Clinches Second Straight Playoff Berth

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team clinched its second straight ODAC playoff berth with a 21-2 win at Randolph on Wednesday.

Anna O'Hara led the attack with seven goals, while Claire Palermo-Re totaled six points on two goals and four assists. That moved Palermo-Re to 99 career assists, three shy of the school record.

Annie Sullivan and Dwyer Neal had hat tricks, and defensively Jacqueline DiFulvio, Tori Hudson and Brittney Brown caused two turnovers each.

O'Hara scored four times in the opening 11 minutes to help the Eagles take a 6-1 lead. The final goal of that spurt was assisted by Palermo-Re.

Palermo-Re scored the next two and then assisted Phoebe Hart for another. O'Hara's fifth of the opening half made it 10-1 with 13:18 left on the clock.

Sarah Yashinskie, Sullivan and Neal continued what would ultimately be a 13-0 run in the first half, which was capped by O'Hara to send the Eagles into the break with a 14-1 advantage.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Palermo-Re assisted O'Hara for a 16-2 lead and then later found DiFulvio for a 19-2 scoreline.

Shannon Rogers capped the scoring with 2:34 left in the contest.

Rachel Gruber made five saves and allowed just two goals in the cage for Bridgewater. Chrissy Shackleford led the WildCats with three ground balls while totaling 10 saves in goal.

Having secured a postseason spot, Bridgewater (9-4, 4-2) will host Lynchburg on Saturday. A BC win combined with a Washington & Lee win over Guilford this weekend would give the Eagles their first home playoff game since 1998- which was coincidentally a 16-4 ODAC quarterfinal victory over Lynchburg (on April 22, 1998).
