Bridgewater Cruises Past Guilford

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Bridgewater College scored its goals in bunches against Guilford in Saturday's ODAC matchup. The Eagles used a big second half to pull away for the 18-9 victory and improve their record to 8-4 on the year.

Anna O'Hara led the way for the Eagles as she chipped in five goals and added two assists. Kristen Stark and Claire Palermo-Re each contributed hat tricks and an assist while Sarah Yashinskie, Annie Sullivan, and Dwyer Neal each added two goals in the contest.

O'Hara gave the Eagles the lead just 1:26 into the game - a lead they would never give up - scoring her first goal as she was assisted by Palermo-Re. That goal would be the first of a three-goal spurt to put Bridgewater up 3-0 just over six minutes into the contest.

Guilford answered back with a goal of their own only to have Bridgewater respond with its second three goal spurt of the half. Stark got the run started, recording her first goal of the contest with 19:53 remaining in the half.

After Palermo-Re's goal gave the Eagles a 6-1 lead, the Quakers finished the first half strong closing the gap to enter halftime down 7-4.

Guilford kept the momentum rolling coming out of halftime by scoring just 1:28 into the second half, drawing the Quakers to within two of the Eagles. That's the closest Guilford would get as Yashinskie responded by scoring on a free position shot, which started the first of two, three-goal runs in the second half.

Neal scored back-to-back goals only separated by 13 seconds, while O'Hara recorded her second and final assist of the game on Neal's second goal of the game. O'Hara chipped in another goal to expand Bridgewater's lead to 13-6 over the Quakers.

With the score 13-7 and the Quakers showing signs of life, the Eagles put the game out of reach in the second half by going on a 4-0 run to surge out to a 17-7 lead with 18:21 remaining in the game. Sullivan started the run with an unassisted goal.

Bridgewater will be in action again when the Eagles travel to face ODAC opponent Randolph on April 19. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
