Eagles Take ODAC Home Contest vs. Marlins

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. –
The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team cruised past Virginia Wesleyan 19-4 on Wednesday for a conference victory.

Sophomore Anna O'Hara led the Eagles attack with six goals. Senior Annie Sullivan had a hat trick and an assist, and senior Claire Palermo-Re totaled a goal, four assists and three ground balls.

The Marlins struck first on the game's opening possession, but Sarah Yashinskie (who also had a hat trick) soon got the Eagles on the board with a free position shot.

Kayla O'Sullivan caused a turnover on a VWC clear, with O'Hara ripping a shot off the right post. Dwyer Neal (three goals) forced another giveaway on the clear however, and O'Hara scored from Palermo-Re's assist for a 2-1 Bridgewater lead.

O'Hara struck again from Jacqueline DiFulvio for a 3-1 lead. Palermo-Re found Kristen Stark for her second assist of the game and a 5-1 scoreline.

Freshman Shannon Rogers scored through a crowd to make it 6-1. O'Hara won the draw control and went right down the field to record a hat trick, just 10 seconds later.

Sullivan found fellow senior Palermo-Re wide open in front of the cage, but this time the Marlins responded immediately off the draw- with Megan Schallock scoring in 12 seconds to make it 8-2 BC. Schallock won the next draw and nearly tallied again, rattling the crossbar.

With 5:53 left in the first half Brittney Brown caused a turnover, leading to an Eagle counterattack and DiFulvio assisting O'Hara.

With the clock already running, Yashinskie capped off the first half for a 13-2 lead with 45 seconds left. That would be the final action before the break, with the horn sounding as the teams were back in position for the draw.

O'Hara's sixth of the day made it 15-2 Bridgewater with 23:51 remaining in the contest. Sophomore Phoebe Hart recorded her first goal of the season at 20:13 for a 16-2 lead.

The Eagles improve to 7-4, 2-2 ODAC and will play at Guilford on Saturday looking to further solidify their playoff seeding. Virginia Wesleyan falls to 1-12, 0-6.
