LEXINGTON, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday, losing to perennial ODAC power Washington and Lee, 9-0.
Bridgewater had its best effort at No. 2 doubles where Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn lost to W&L's Melinda Kauffman and Anna Kreynin 8-4.
At No. 1 doubles Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflet dropped an 8-0 decision to Brooke Donnelly and Tessa Hill. The Generals' duo of Maddie Hutchins and Gabby Moore stopped Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
W&L swept the six singles matches in straight sets. Donnelly defeated Lewis 6--0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Hill took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Kiser. Kauffman downed Shifflet 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Kreynin stopped Barton 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. In the final two flights, Moore defeated Cash 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 while Hutchins downed Quinn 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 slot.
