Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Mary Washington scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning Saturday evening and went on to defeat the Bridgewater College Eagles, 15-5, in non-conference action at Methodist University.
After the five-run first, Mary Washington added four more runs in the second to lead 9-0.
The Eagles got on the board in the third with three runs. Luke Paczewski and Josh Lasam led off the inning with singles and Paczewski scored on a double by Matthew LaPrade. After Kenner Berry walked to load the bases with one out, an infield error allowed Lasam and LaPrade to score, making the score 9-3.
Mary Washington answered with four runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth to lead 15-3.
The Eagles added a run in the seventh when Berry drew a bases-loaded walk. Bridgewater scored its final run in the ninth when LaPrade singled and circled the bases on a pair of errors to make the final score 15-5.
LaPrade, Berry, Brett Jones and Lasam each finished with two hits for the Eagles. Christian Hague was 3-for-4 for Mary Washington with a homer and three RBIs.
Nick McIntyre allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits in six innings of work to get the win on the mound.
For the Eagles, Ryan Mason and Johnny LaVoie combined to close out the game with four hitless innings of relief.
The Eagles, now 1-1 on the season, close out the weekend trip on Sunday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Methodist.
