Women's Soccer Falls To Yellow Jackets, 1-0

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - A late first-half goal was all Randolph-Macon needed Saturday as the Yellow Jackets defeated Bridgewater College 1-0 in ODAC women's soccer action.

The loss ended the Eagles' 10-match winning streak and was the team's first loss in conference play this season. Bridgewater is now 10-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The visitors controlled play for most of the first half. Macon kept the Eagles defense under pressure for most of the half and limited Bridgewater's offensive chances. The Yellow Jackets held a 10-0 advantage in shots and a 10-1 margin in corner kicks.

Bridgewater's best attempt came midway through the half when Bailey Kratz worked past her defender on the right flank and carried the ball toward the box. Kratz crossed the ball into the center of the box where her attempt just missed connecting with Keri Rager who had a free run toward the goal.

The Yellow Jackets scored the game's lone goal in the 37th minute. Gabby Nelson possessed the ball on the right side and passed back out to the middle of the field to Casey Kent. Kent put a shot on goal from 30 yards out and the attempt floated just over goalkeeper Hayley Talbott and just under the cross bar to put Macon on the scoreboard.

Play was more evenly distributed in the second half with the Yellow Jackets owning a slim 7-6 edge in shots while the Eagles held a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Eagles just missed tying the contest in the 67th minute when Rager worked past her defender on the right side and dribbled the ball into the box. Rager put a shot on frame but the attempt hit the cross bar and bounced away.

Talbott finished the contest with five saves while Randolph-Macon keeper Christina Newman made one save while recording the shutout.

Bridgewater returns to action Wednesday when the Eagles host Shenandoah in another key conference matchup. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
