Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College took the lead with a goal in the 71st minute Saturday evening and WildCats maintained the margin down the stretch to take a 2-1 ODAC victory over Bridgewater College.
The Eagles struck first to take the lead in the 27th minute. First-year forward Eric Hogge put a shot on frame that was initially stopped by Randolph keeper Erick Cortez-Martinez. The keeper failed to keep control of the ball, however, and the shot trickled across the goal line for the score and a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.
The WildCats evened the score late in the first half on a set piece. Randolph's Gabe Krueger Over took a corner kick and sent the ball into the box where Daniel Over headed a shot past Eagles' keeper Quentin Boric to tie the score with just 2:29 remaining in the opening half.
The teams traded shots on goal early in the second half, but the score remained tied until just past the midway mark of the second half.
Randolph applied pressure to the Eagles' defense in the 68th minute, but a shot by Jonathan Powell hit the crossbar and bounced away. In the 69th minute, Randolph's Niles Brown took a shot from deep but the attempt sailed high. Late in the 71st minute however, the WildCats broke through when Frankie DiOrio scored his seventh goal of the season off a clear attempt by an Eagles' defender to put the hosts ahead 2-1.
The WildCats kept the pressure on the Eagles the rest of the way with two corner kicks and three shots on goal. The Randolph defense held the Eagles without a shot in the final 20 minutes to close out the one-goal victory.
Randolph held a commanding 17-3 advantage in shot attempts and a 7-0 margin in cormer kicks.
Cortez-Martinez made one save for the WildCats while Boric recorded seven saves in goal for the Eagles.
Bridgewater closes out its regular season on Tuesday when the Eagles host Randolph-Macon College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. The Eagles will honor the team's seniors at halftime on Senior Day.
