Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College defeated Guilford College, 2-0, Saturday to move into a tie for first place in the ODAC women's soccer standings.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 5-1 in conference play - the same record as Lynchburg, Virginia Wesleyan and Washington and Lee. Bridgewater is 12-2-1 overall.
The ODAC's top two scorers - Anna Sobus and Keri Rager - combined to lead Eagles attack in Saturday's win.
The Eagles took the lead early with a goal in the fourth minute. Sobus crossed the ball into the box and Rager finished from close range just inside the left post to put the Eagles on top 1-0.
Bridgewater scored its second goal in the 23rd minute when Grayson Mathews crossed the ball from the left side and Sobus finished from in front of the goal for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
Sobus and Rager rank 1-2 in the ODAC in points scored. Sobus ranks first with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists while Rager is close behind with 26 points on nine goals and eight assists. Sobus leads the conference in goals and ranks fifth in assists while Rager is No. 2 in assists and No. 5 in goals scored.
Bridgewater held a commanding 18-2 advantage in shots over the Quakers and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Eagles' keepers Hayley Talbott and Sydney Davis combined for the shutout, the team's 10th of the season. Talbott leads the ODAC with a 0.48 goals against average. Guilford did not have a shot on goal during the contest.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they make the long trip to Virginia Wesleyan University to play the Marlins with at least a share of first place on the line. The game is slated to start at 5:00 p.m.
