Men's Lacrosse Loses at Roanoke Despite 23 Saves From Buss

Box Score

ROANOKE, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 14-6 on the road Wednesday, to a Roanoke team that is getting votes in the USILA national poll.

Senior goalie Andrew Buss made 23 saves while allowing just 14 goals. He stopped 13 first half shots to keep the Eagles in the game, down just 8-3 at the break. He also recorded two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Offensively, Chris Voorhees scored twice and Daniel Brown dished out two assists.

Faceoffs were a major difference for the Maroons, who won 18-of-22 at the dot. Reid Kaminski was 13-of-16 on faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls for the hosts.

Roanoke opened up the game in the second and third quarters, outscoring BC 8-1 over that 30-minute span.

The Eagles had opened the scoring through Voorhees, and trailed just 3-2 after one period following a goal by Thomas Maher.

Roanoke would score the next five goals in the second quarter from five different scorers, including Kaminski who struck right off the faceoff nine seconds after a Hayden Miller tally.

The Maroons kept the pressure on in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 3-0 including a man-up goal by Tyler McWilliams.

Blake Mann scored from Sean MacLeish in the fourth quarter to stop a 9-1 Maroon run, but the Eagles trailed 12-4 at that point.

Senior Derrick Daniels recorded his 99th career point with an assist to Voorhees a few minutes later, and Taylor Phipps also scored in the fourth quarter for Bridgewater.

The Eagles are 6-8, 1-6 ODAC and will host Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.

It will be Senior Day for the fourth-year program's first full graduating class, and the Eagles will recognize Buss, Daniels, Maher, Kevin Ashcraft, Sam Cheplick, Lucas Clark, Landon Elmore, Jason Gerst, Curtis Hughes, Billy Lentz, Paul Miniaci, Tylden Mosby and Rob Simmons 30 minutes before the start of the game.
