Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Bridgewater held the hosts to just eight goals but couldn't capitalize at the other end in an 8-4 loss at Lynchburg College on Saturday.
Junior goalie Rachel Gruber had another huge game with 13 saves to just eight goals allowed, keeping Bridgewater in the contest throughout.
Junior defender Kayla O'Sullivan had two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls, with freshman Anna O'Hara forcing one giveaway and totaling three ground balls and three draw controls.
Bridgewater got to within one with 12:49 left in the game after an eight-meter goal by Caroline Fletcher.
Lynchburg responded two minutes later however to make it 6-4, and Sarah Suter added two more in a span of 81 seconds to put things out of reach.
Trailing 2-0 after seven minutes, the Eagles got on the board with a Jenna Devilbiss eight-meter goal, and then tied it up with a tally from freshman Kristen Stark.
Lynchburg scored the next three goals as Bridgewater fell behind 5-2, but Claire Palermo-Re struck with 27:04 left before Fletcher made it 5-4.
The Eagles were stronger both on the draw and in clearing the ball, two areas of concern in recent close losses. Bridgewater won half of the game's 14 draw controls and was 13-for-15 on clears.
Lynchburg got hat tricks from Suter and Laura Meisner, while Caroline Carozza added a goal and two assists.
Bridgewater falls to 5-6, 0-3 ODAC and will look to get its first conference win of the season next Saturday at Hollins.
