Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Roanoke pulled away in the second half to defeat the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team, 15-8 on Saturday at Jopson Field.
Senior Caroline Fletcher became the 17th player in program history to tally 100 career goals when she scored on a nice spin move with 7:28 left in the first half, tying the game at 5-all.
Bridgewater led 6-5 with four minutes left in the first half after a Kristen Stark eight meter from the center hash, but Roanoke scored the final three goals of the half.
BC goalie Rachel Gruber finished with 20 saves for the Eagles, who were out-scored 10-2 after taking their only lead of the contest.
Fletcher finished with a hat trick and Anna O'Hara added two goals and an assist for the hosts.
Nicole Zelnik had opened the scoring for Roanoke with two free position goals in a span of 25 seconds. Stark spun past her defender to get the Eagles on the board and make it 2-1.
Bridgewater's Annie Sullivan had hit the post in the early going, and Roanoke's Claire Feeney did the same down at other end.
Gruber made 12 saves in the first half, including stops on Feeney and Allison Beames that led to an O'Hara goal to cut the Maroon advantage to 4-3. A few minutes later O'Hara completed a nice drive to the cage to even things up.
Gruber would follow with two straight eight meter stops on Katie Clements, with the Eagles briefly taking the lead afterwards through Stark.
Roanoke was led by Feeney (5 goals, 1 assist, 7 draw controls) and Zelnik (4 goals, 2 assists).
Bridgewater falls to 7-7, 2-4 ODAC and will host Randolph on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before a trip to Shenandoah a week after that- two must-win games for the Eagles in their conference playoff push. Roanoke is 7-7, 5-2 on the year.
