Box Score SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College used a 12-0 run to close the first quarter to open up an eight-point lead and the Maroons held on the rest of the way to defeat Bridgewater 78-68 in ODAC women's hoops action Nonday evening.
The Maroons jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before a jumper by Jessica Lam and a 3-pointer by Jessi Strom pulled the Eagles to within 7-5,
After a layup by Roanoke's Ellen Wagner made it 9-5, a 3-pointer by Lam and an inside hoop by Oshene Kelly gave the Eagles a 10-9 lead. Cassidy Burkholder then swished a 3-pointer, making the score 13-9 with 5:53 left in the first period.
The Maroons held the Eagles scoreless during the remainder of the quarter and opened up a 21-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Maroons led 38-29 at the break before adding to their lead in the third period. Strom hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to keep the Eagles in it, but Roanoke poured in 23 points in the period to lead 61-48.
A layup by Kelly with 3:45 left in the game, sliced the deficit to single digits and a 15-footer by Briana Moore pulled the Eagles to within eight, 74-66, with 1:11 left.
That, however would be as close as the Eagles would get as the Maroons closed out the 78-68 victory.
Strom hit 6-of-11 3-pointers to lead the Eagles with 18 points. Lam scored 14 and Kelly added 10.
Cary Beahm led the Maroons with 25 points and 15 rebounds.
The Eagles, 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the ODAC, return to action Wednesday evening when they host Shenandoah.
