Eagles Stop Apprentice School, Enter Bye Week on Winning Streak

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. –
The Bridgewater College football team rode a first half shutout to a comfortable 34-14 win, Saturday night vs. The Apprentice School at Jopson Field.

Sophomore Jason Monroe intercepted two deflected passes and junior Davey Hardesty racked up 13 tackles for the victors. Tyler Miller had one tackle for loss and a forced fumble, and John Piette added a sack.

Quarterback Matthew Pisarcik had his best game of the season so far, completing 9-of-13 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. Fellow senior Kevin Barr caught three balls for 90 yards and a score.

Bridgewater opened the game up in the second quarter, scoring twice to go ahead 17-0 at the break.

Pisarcik found Will Hill-Pensamiento for 22 yards on 3rd-and-17 late in the first quarter, setting up Nick Ollie's eight-yard scoring cut to the outside early in the second.

Pisarcik soon hit Barr, wide open in the end zone, for a 17-yard score that made it 17-0 in favor of the home side. In between, Apprentice had a promising drive derailed when Quinton Phillips' 25-yard catch was negated due to a flag.

Apprentice found the end zone early in the third quarter, but on the very next play Pisarcik hit Barr for 54 yards, setting up a 22-yard field goal.

Jeffrey Moore returned a punt to the four yard line, and freshman quarterback Anthony Lovelace ran it in to put the Eagles up 27-7.

Ross Rushing added a TD pass to sophomore wideout Dylan Horne in the fourth quarter, with the 12-yard score making it 34-7 Bridgewater.

The Eagles held Apprentice to just five first downs and 98 total yards in the first half, led by 12 stops from Hardesty (10 unassisted).

Apprentice put the ball on the ground three times on their first two possessions, but recovered each time. After fumbling the game's opening snap, Hardesty ran down QB David Watford at the sideline to force a stop.

The Builders recovered a flubbed punt on their next possession, after the Eagles were lucky to have a pass intercepted on their initial set of downs.

The Eagles got the game's first big break with 6:45 left in the first quarter, as Monroe intercepted a tipped pass in Builders' territory. A 41-yarder from Chandler DeHaven was right down the middle with room to spare to open the scoring.

Travis Harris led the Builders with 12 tackles and a pass breakup. Quarterback Brenden O'Neil came on in relief of Watford and rushed for two scores, totaling 106 yards of offense.

Bridgewater improves to 2-1 and will have a bye week before beginning ODAC play on October 3 at rival Shenandoah. Apprentice falls to 0-3 on the year.
