BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Randolph-Macon defeated Bridgewater College 7-2 Monday afternoon in an ODAC women's tennis match played on Mapp Courts.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead at the completion of doubles play.
Bridgewater took its point in doubles with a win at No. 1 where Maria Hawkins and Marla O'Bryan edged Angelina Sportelli and Kelsie Grace 9-8. The Eagles' duo won the tiebreaker 7-4.
The No. 2 doubles was closely contested as Macon's Molly Jesseman and Melissa Tomlin edged Shannon Quinn and Ashley Price 8-6.
The Yellow Jackets closed out doubles with a win at No. 3 as Sarah Hinson and Hannah Trueblood downed Whitney Cash and Haley Lloyd 8-1.
Hawkins was the only BC player to win in singles as she rolled past Sportelli 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles matchup.
Bridgewater's Cash lost a close match at No. 5, falling in split sets to Hinson. Hinson took the first set 6-3 while Cash took a 6-4 win in the second set. Hinson then edged Cash 6-4 in the third and deciding set.
Randolph-Macon won the remaining four matches, all in straight sets.
At No. 2 singles, Grice defeated O'Bryan 6-1, 6-3 while Tomlin downed Quinn 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. At No. 4 Jesseman held off Price 7-5, 6-3 and at No. 6 Trueblood rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lloyd.
