EMORY, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 conference victory Sunday afternoon over Emory & Henry.
The Eagles led 2-1 after doubles and then swept the singles matches, all in straight sets, to finish off the victory.
Bridgewater lost a total of just 12 games in winning the six singles matches.
Eagles' No. 1 player Maria Hawkins turned back Stella Di Michele 6-2, 6-3 while Marla O'Bryan defeated Lauren Riner 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Bridgewater's Shannon Quinn defeated Sheyenne Cleveland 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and at No. 4 Ashley Price downed Dani Amoruso 6-1, 6-2.
The Eagles won the final two matches 6-0, 6-0. Whitney Cash won at No. 5 over Kala Curtis and Leanne Smithers blanked Alyssa Lambert at No. 6.
Hawkins and O'Bryan continued their strong play at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Cleveland and Riner. At No. 3 doubles, Cash and Haley Lloyd blanked Curtis and Lambert 8-0.
Emory & Henry gained its lone point at No. 2 doubles where Di Michele and Amaruso edged Quinn and Price, 8-6.
