LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse earned the program's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory of 2015, defeating host Randolph 16-8 behind a career day from Thomas Maher.

Maher finished with eight goals on just 11 shots- the second-highest scoring total in the three-year history of the BC lacrosse program. He also had three ground balls.

Rob Simmons added five points on four goals and an assist. Goalie Andrew Buss racked up 17 saves to just eight goals allowed in the cage.

Bridgewater led 9-4 at halftime after allowing just one goal in the second quarter. Maher scored his second straight at 14:34 of the second for a 7-3 lead, and long-stick midfielder Lucas Clark followed with another four-and-a-half minutes later.

Randolph got one back, but Simmons scored unassisted with 2:15 remaining to restore a five-goal advantage heading into the break.

Simmons had opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, and Maher recorded BC's next six goals, including five in the first quarter, as the visitors jumped ahead quickly.

Maher also kicked off the third quarter scoring early in the period, off an assist from Matthew Arndt for Bridgewater's 10th of the day.

Blake Mann made it 11-4, and following a Randolph goal Michael Darby won the ground ball off the faceoff and immediately hit Simmons for a 12-5 lead.

Bridgewater kept pouring it on, as Chris Voorhees scored after his shot earlier in the possession had been saved by Matt Lindenbaum.

Trailing 14-6, Randolph got two goals in a span of 22 seconds. Corey Nehlig scored on the man-advantage, and right off the faceoff Brian Crosby's low attempt bounced off the leg of Andrew Buss and spun in for a 14-8 scoreline.

Bridgewater eliminated any thoughts of a comeback as Voorhees scored man-up with an assist from Arndt, and Maher added his eighth of the day to cap the scoresheet.

The Eagles held a 45-32 advantage in shots, won 15-of-26 faceoffs, and was good on 19-of-23 clears. Each side was 2-for-4 on man-up opportunities.

Randolph was led by Shane Soghomonian's four goals, with Baden James adding six ground balls. WildCat goalies Lindenbaum and Cam Davis made seven saves each.

Bridgewater improves to 5-9, 1-5 ODAC and will have eight days off before hosting Roanoke on April 19.
