Eagles Beaten at #14 Washington & Lee

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater men's lacrosse went on the road for just the second time this season, losing 18-1 to nationally-ranked Washington & Lee on Saturday.

The Generals came into the game ranked #14 in the latest USILA national poll- one of three ODAC teams ranked or receiving votes.

The Eagles' lone goal came in the third quarter, as Thomas Maher finished off a pass from Rob Simmons.

Bridgewater was solid defensively in the first quarter, holding the Generals to two goals in the first 17+ minutes of action.

Washington & Lee's Cam Lewis opened the scoring with 8:29 on the clock, and Christian Zanetis added another with 5:43 left in the first.

Corey Portell got a shot off in transition right after the opener, but it was saved by the General goaltender. Kevin Ashcraft was also denied in the opening quarter.

The floodgates opened in the second quarter, with Washington & Lee tallying nine times in a span of less than 12 minutes.

Joe Parrella made it 3-0 and Lewis assisted on two more goals in the next two minutes, before Sean Nevin took a slashing penalty and Kevin Katzmann tallied man-up for a 6-0 scoreline.

Two Generals struck within a minute of each other to push the gap to 8-0, and Katzmann started a run of three W&L goals in under three minutes late in the second quarter.

Simmons had three ground balls and an assist to lead the Eagles, while Andrew Buss made seven saves in a reserve stint in goal.

Kaztmann had three goals and two assists for the Generals, while Zanetis and Chris Rusbuldt also had hat tricks.

The Eagles totaled 14 shots on goal but saw 12 saved by Wyatt Devine and Nick Peterson.

The Eagles lost a streak of seven straight games holding their opponents to 10 goals or fewer.

Bridgewater (4-5, 0-2 ODAC) will have another week off before traveling to Guilford next Saturday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

Washington & Lee improves to 7-2, 2-0 and will host Maine's Colby College on Tuesday.
