LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to edge Bridgewater College 5-4 Friday afternoon in ODAC women's tennis action.
Bridgewater's Maria Hawkins and Marla O'Bryan continued their strong play at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Jenna Sweet and Dina Velazco. Whitney Cash and Haley Lloyd picked up a point at No. 3 doubles for Bridgewater with a close 8-6 victory over Danielle Lewis and Tiandre Forde.
The WildCats salvaged a point at No. 2 doubles where Sarah Parker and Heather Parra downed BC's Leanne Smithers and Ashley Price 8-2.
Hawkins and O'Bryan took the top two singles flights to push he Eagles to the brink of a team victory.
Hawkins rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Velazco while O'Bryan defeated Parker in three sets at the No. 2 slot. O'Bryan won the first set 6-1, but lost the second set 6-3. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with O'Bryan winning 10-5.
The WildCats, however, won the final four singles flights to take the 5-4 team victory.
Randolph's Sweet won at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 decison over Quinn and Lewis blanked Lloyd 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 slot.
The WildCats closed out the victory by winning the final two matches on the court. Forde stopped Smithers 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 and Parra defeated Cash 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 to close out the match, The second set was tied 3-3 before Parra reeled off the final three games.
