Eagles Feature 16 Different Scorers in 16-1 Victory

Box Score

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -
The Eagles got 16 goals from 16 different players, winning their spring break opener 16-1 over Elms College on Tuesday in Hilton Head.

16 of 17 players who saw the field (not counting goalkeeper Rachel Gruber) scored, and nine different Eagles scored on their only shot attempt of the contest.

Two veteran starting defenders recorded their first career goals, as senior Caroline Augsburger and sophomore Katherine Ellis struck on free position shots in a rare trip forward to the attacking end. Overall, six Eagles scored the first goal of their collegiate careers (Augsburger, Ellis, Morgan Drankiewicz, Kayla Strothers, Colleen Cunningham and Kayla O'Sullivan).

Claire Palermo-Re led the Eagles in scoring with a goal and four assists. Jesse Colligan recorded a goal, two assists, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Paige Hennessy won a game-high five draw controls.

As a team, the Eagles won 17-of-19 draw controls and caused 13 turnovers.

Hennessy opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the contest, with an assist from Jenna Devilbiss. Devilbiss then added another with 63 seconds played.

O'Sullivan made it 3-0, followed by tallies from Palermo-Re and Meredith Wimbrow.

Augsburger was then fouled on a drive and finished off the free-position chance for the senior All-ODAC defender's first career goal.

Annie Sullivan assisted Colligan with 20:32 left in the first half for a 7-0 lead, and Lakin Engman scored on an eight-meter chance to make it 8-0.

Strothers, Caroline Fletcher and Annie Sullivan recorded the final three goals of the first half, as the Eagles led 11-1 at the break.

Another Eagle defender, Brittany Lanahan, opened BC's second half account with 25:50 to play.

Palermo-Re assisted on the first three goals of the second half, feeding Drankiewicz for a 13-1 lead and then Brittney Brown to make it 14-1 Eagles.

Cunningham made it 15-1 with 17:42 to play and Bridgewater ran the clock the rest of the way, except for a free position goal by Ellis.

Elms' lone goal came from Ashley Cava midway through the first half.

Gruber recorded three saves as she held a team to one goal for the second time in her career (Hollins, 2014).

Bridgewater improves to 2-2 on the season and will conclude its spring break trip on Thursday vs. Drew University.
