Hornets Edge Eagles, 1-0

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Shenandoah University (11-6-1, 8-1-1 ODAC) made the most of its one shot attempt in the second half Tuesday afternoon as the Hornets slipped past the Bridgewater College Eagles, 1-0, in ODAC women's soccer action.

Shenandoah's Jordan Riser lofted a shot in the 69th minute from 25 yards out that just eluded Eagles keeper Hayley Talbott and snuck under the crossbar for the only score of the game as the Hornets emerged victorious in the key conference matchup.

After a scoreless first half in which each team fired off seven shots, the Eagles came out with an aggressive offensive approach early in the second half and peppered Hornets' keeper Erin Septer with several shots on goal.

Bridgewater took nine shots in the first 15 miuntes of play in the second half with six of those shots on goal. Each time, however, Septer, who finished with 13 saves, was in position to turn away the Eagles' attempts.

Then, in the 69th minute, the Hornets countered and moved the ball into their offensive end. Averi Rosena controlled the ball at the top of the box and dropped a pass to Riser. Riser lofted her shot just over Talbott's head, making the score 1-0.

Bridgewater had three solid chances to tie the score in the final 18 minutes, but came away empty-handed. Viegas had a shot from straight on just inside the box in the 72nd minute, but Septer was in line for the save. Keri Rager had a good look in the 76th minute, but her attempt sailed high. Bridgewater's final chance came early in the 83rd minute when Septer made the stop on a shot from Julia Baca.

The Eagles held a 21-8 edge in shots, including a 14-1 margin in the second half. Bridgewater also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Bridgewater (9-6-1, 6-3-1 ODAC) will close out its regular season Saturday when the Eagles travel to Virginia Wesleyan College. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
