BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College posted its second straight conference shutout Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles held off Randolph-Macon College, 1-0.

The visitors earned two corner kick opportunities early in the contest, but each time a header by the Yellow Jackets' Maddie Burns was just off target.

Randolph-Macon (6-7, 3-5 in the ODAC) threatened again in the 19th minute on a shot by Bridget Panas from straightaway, just inside the box. Bridgewater keeper Hayley Talbott made a diving save to keep the contest scoreless.

Bridgewater then got its offense untracked, tallying the game's lone goal in the 25th minute off a corner kick opportunity. Michelle Viegas took the corner and her ball glanced off a Randolph-Macon defender. The ball went to Eagles freshman Isabella Krider and she booted it past keeper Elizabeth Blanco for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.

The Yellow Jackets had two corners late in the game, but each time the Eagles defense remained solid. Panas served a ball into the box in the 87th minute, but a header by Burns went right to Talbott for the save. In the closing seconds Panas took another corner, but Talbott took the ball out of the air and the Eagles ran off the final seconds to close out the 1-0 victory.

The Eagles held a 14-8 margin in shots and a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Talbott finished the contest with two saves while Blanco had four saves for the Yellow Jackets. The shutout was Talbott's sixth of the season.

Bridgewater, now 8-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the ODAC, returns to action Saturday when the Eagles travel to Lynchburg to play Randolph College. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
