EMORY, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team continued to climb in the conference standings with a key 3-0 ODAC victory Wednesday at Emory & Henry College.
The victory is the third straight for the Eagles in conference play and moved them into the top eight in the ODAC standings.
Bridgewater (6-7-1, 3-5 in the ODAC) took the lead in the 38th minute. Bridgewater earned a corner kick to set up the goal. Logan McGlynn took the corner and served the ball into the box where Connor Henderson headed a shot past the E&H keeper for his fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Eagles lead.
The Eagles padded the lead with a goal less than five minutes into the second half. Renato Grgic sent a ball ahead to Ben Lewis and the Bridgewater senior outran an E&H defender and then beat the keeper with a shot to the near post, making the score 2-0.
Bridgewater added its final goal nine minutes later with Grgic once again playing the distributor. The Eagles sophomore slipped a pass from the right side to a wide-open Jonathan Min. The BC freshman scored from straightaway, inside the six, for the first goal of his college career.
The Eagles held a 21-10 edge in shots while the Wasps had a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Bridgewater keeper Mark Davis turned away four shots for his fifth shutout of the season. E&H keeper Didier Grillet finished with eight saves.
Bridgewater returns to action Saturday with another important ODAC road date as the Eagles will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to play the Guilford Quakers. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
