Women's Soccer Improves To 7-2 With Victory Over Hollins

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team ran its overall record to 7-2 and its Old Dominion Athletic Conference mark to 2-1 with a 9-0 victory Wednesday afternoon over Hollins University. The win was the third straight for the Eagles.

Bridgewater took command with two goals in the first four minutes of play. Sarah Brennan put the Eagles on the board with a shot from 12 yards out and Katherine Wight found the back of the net less than two minutes later for a 2-0 Eagles lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for Brennan while Wight's goal was the first of her career. Keri Rager assisted on both scores, giving her a team-high five assists on the year.

Julia Baca scored the next two Bridgewater goals, giving the junior forward a team-high eight goals this season. Brennan assisted on Baca's second goal that put the Eagles out front 4-0. 

Rager added to her point total with a goal in the 15th minute off a pass from fellow freshman Grayson Mathews as the Eagles increased the margin to 5-0.

Alli Shaffer scored the next Bridgewater goal in the 34th minute when she took a pass across the box from Kelly Patterson and found the back of the net with a shot from 15 yards out, making the score 6-0.

In the 36th minute of play, Anne Cypriano centered a pass to Paxton Sauerwald and the Eagles senior beat the Hollins keeper with a shot to the near post for a 7-0 lead.

The Eagles added their final goal of the first half in the final minute of play when Marina Del Pizzo's pass into the box found Amber Sandy for an open shot. Sandy's shot to the far post made the score 8-0 at the half.

Bridgewater scored its final goal early in the second half. Sauerwald possessed the ball along the end line and centered a pass into the box where Cypriano cashed in with her first goal of the season for the final 9-0 margin of victory.

Bridgewater played three goalkeepers Hayley Talbott, Haley Carter and Taylor Riley. The trio did not face a shot during the contest. Hollins keeper Megan McKee faced 27 shots and recorded eight saves.

The Eagles return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Emory & Henry for an ODAC contest. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
