VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater men's tennis team lost a hard-fought match Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan, falling 6-3 to the Marlins in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Marlins took the upper hand by winning two of three doubles matches to start the contest.
Bridgewater picked up its point at No. 2 doubles where Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff turned back Spencer Bullock and Tyler Chang 8-3.
The Marlins won at No. 1 doubles where Graham Wilson and Kenny Downing defeated Christian Lynn and Mike Cable 8-3. At No. 3 doubles Drew Tomajczyk and Brendan Kelleher held off Bridgewater's Sam Churchill and Kyle Hartfield 8-5.
At No. 1 singles, Larsen turned back Wilson in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. The Eagles also won at No. 3 where Lynn took a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Bullock.
The Marlins took the four remaining matches in straight sets. Downing stopped Hartfield 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 while Tomajczyk ousted Rishcoff 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles flight.
Chang won a close match at No. 5 by holding off Churchill 6-4, 6-4 and Kelleher defeated Cable 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 to close out the scoring.
Bridgewater is now 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the ODAC.
