Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team broke free from a 0-0 halftime tie to defeat Randolph-Macon, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Eagles, now 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the ODAC.

The Eagles missed an opportunity in the opening 10 minutes to grab the early lead. Bridgewater was awarded a penalty kick at the 8:29 mark, but Nikole Blackwell's attempt hit the crossbar.

Bridgewater kept pressure on the Yellow Jackets throughout the opening half, but was unable to finish opportunities. The Eagles held an 11-3 edge in shots, but went to the break with the score tied at 0-0.

The Eagles finally broke the ice early in the second half when Keri Rager scored off an assist from Blackwell at the 49:19 mark for a 1-0 lead. The goal was the fifth this season for the freshman forward.

The Yellow Jackets stayed within striking distance, keeping it a one-goal game until Alli Shaffer scored twice in the final 14 minutes to put the game away. Shaffer tallied her first goal off an assist from Anna Theisen and, six minutes later, scored off a pass from Julia Baca for the final 3-0 margin of victory. The goals were the second and third of the season for Shaffer.

The Eagles posted a 20-4 edge in shots and held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Rager attempted eight shots, with four on goal, while Baca put five of her six shots on goal.

Bridgewater goalkeeper Krista Kelly finished the contest with three saves to record the shutout, her fourth of the season. The Eagles have held their opponent scoreless in eight of their nine victories.

For Randolph-Macon, Sam Taylor led the team with two shots, including one on goal. Yellow Jackets keeper Hannah Moyer finished the contest with 10 saves.

The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to play the Guilford Quakers. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
