Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at McDaniel, 20-13

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Four goals each by both juniors Taylor Chamberlain and Katie Freeman weren't enough to overcome an early run by the Green Terror of McDaniel as the Bridgewater Eagles women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 20-13 in a non-conference match up.

McDaniel scored the first four goals before a Freeman goal off a Chamberlain pass got the Eagles on the board with a score of 4-1 with 21:07 left in the first frame.

The Green Terror followed with another 5-0 run until a free position goal from Carli Bafford cut off McDaniel's streak, making the score 9-2 with 7:15 remaining in the opening stanza.

Another McDaniel tally increased the lead to 10-2, but a minute later, Paige Hennessy scored her only goal of the game with 5:08 on the clock. Jenna Devilbiss snuck a free position shot past the goalkeeper to cut the Green Terror lead to 10-4.

Chamberlain and Freeman responded to a pair of McDaniel goals with goals of their own. With a free position goal, Chamberlain scored with 1:07 remaining in the first half, followed by a Freeman unassisted goal to make the score 12-6 heading into the locker room.

Chamberlain fired a shot past the keeper coming out of the intermission with 27:30 on the clock, cutting the McDaniel lead to 12-7. The Green Terror put away five more goals before Chamberlain scored her third goal of the game off a free position shot making the score 17-8 with 14:31 left in the final half of the game.

McDaniel responded with another goal before Chamberlain sparked a 5-0 run by the Eagles with her final goal of the game with 11:54 remaining. Freshman Alexa Miller scored off of a Bafford pass followed by another Freeman goal.

Bafford then scored a goal of her own from a free position shot and Freeman snuck her final goal of the game past the keeper, tallying the score at 18-13 with 3:42 left in the second half.

Bridgewater was unable to score again as McDaniel put away two more goals, making the final score 20-13 as the Eagles dropped the contest on the road.

For the Eagles, Bafford earned nine draw controls, followed by Chamberlain with five. Caroline Augsberger led the defense with three caused turnovers in the game.

Sophomore Laura Reynolds earned the loss in the cage, turning away six shots in the cage.

Danielle Entrot paced the way for the Green Terror with five goals, while Paige Messersmith was right behind her with four goals.
