Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – In its game against the Guilford Quakers in Greensboro this afternoon, the Bridgewater women's lacrosse team couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole as they fell 17-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up.
Guilford opened with a Becca Colley goal to take the first lead, but Taylor Chamberlain notched her only goal of the game with 25:38 on the clock to lock the score at 1-1.
The Quakers exploded with a five goal run, three of which came from Becca Colley to boost their lead to 6-1 with 15:59 remaining in the first half.
Freshman Alexa Miller ended the Guilford run with a tally of her own off a Carli Bafford pass with 10:43 on the clock. Paige Hennessy was able to sneak one past the keeper off a Jordyn Hutchins helper and was followed up by another Miller goal off a Hutchins assist to cut the lead to 6-4 with 6:25 left in the first frame.
With about a minute and a half remaining in the first half, Becca Colley scored her fifth goal of the game to send the teams into the locker room with a 7-4 Guilford lead.
Out of the break, Guilford attacked with an immediate 4-0 run to boost their lead to 11-4 with 22:48 left in the game. Hennessy scored a goal off a Bafford helper to cut the lead down by one, but the Eagles were unable to fend off another 3-0 Quaker run.
Katie Freeman scored her only goal of the game from a Chamberlain pass to make the score 14-6 with 15:38 left in the second half.
Lily Colley scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game, while Eleanora Keene added another Guilford goal to make the score 17-6.
With 10 seconds left on the clock, Jesse Colligan fired a shot past the keeper to give Bridgewater its seventh, and final, tally of the game. The Eagles were unable to overcome the dominance of the Colley sisters, as they scored 10 of Guilford's 17 goals.
In the cage, Laura Reynolds picked up the loss after turning away 8 shots. Liza Mettler for Guilford collected 12 saves.
The Bridgewater offense was led by Miller and Hennessy as they both had two goals, while Bafford and Hutchins dished out two assists each.
The Colley twin sisters led the Quakers with five goals each and Lily Colley managed to dish out six assists.
In the past few games, the Eagles had out-earned their opponents in draw controls, but against the Quakers, they only received eight, while Guilford earned 18. The Quakers also outshot Bridgewater by a 34-25 margin and had a ground ball advantage of 33-25.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, April 3 as they take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan at BC Jopson Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
