BRIDGEWATER, Va. - ODAC power Washington & Lee blanked the Bridgewater College women's tennis team, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon on the BC courts.
The Generals took a 3-0 lead after doubles play and then swept the six singles matches, all in straight sets.
The victory by W&L snapped the Eagles eight-match winning streak.
The Generals Christina Douglas and Sallie Griffin defeated Katie Gordon and Brittany Wilson 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Kerry Cotter and Laura Simmons downed Bridgewater's Olivia Stone and Jessie Mitchell 8-1. W&L's Jen Hall and Katie Florescu finished off the sweep by turning back Miranda Donovan and Rita Murphy, 8-4, in the No. 3 doubles match.
Gordon played the closest set of the day at No. singles against W&L's Griffin. After losing 6-1 in the first set, Gordon battled to a tiebreaker in the second set, losing 7-6.
Griffin took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wilson at No. 2 while Cotter down Stone 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles slot. Hall defeated Mitchell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Simmons downed Donovan 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5. At the No. 6 singles position, Florescu defeated Jamee Hardison 6-0, 6-1.
Bridgewater returns to action Friday when the Eagles travel to Lynchburg to play Randolph College.
