BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Eagles stayed perfect in ODAC play with a 3-0 victory Wednesday afternoon over Emory & Henry in conference play.
The Eagles are now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC while the Wasps drop to 2-8-1, 0-2-1 in the ODAC.
The Eagles controlled play for much of the contest and held a 24-9 edge in shots, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Bridgewater also finished with a huge edge in corners, 10-3.
The Eagles got on the board in the 23rd minute. Sawyer Janes possessed the ball on the right side and moved toward goal with a possible shot. When the keeper committed, Janes pushed a pass to Gerard Miniaci in front of the goal and Miniaci punched the ball into the net for a 1-0 BC lead.
The Eagles made it 2-0 at the 38-minute mark with some nifty passing by Janes and Patrick Thornton. Janes and Thornton worked a give-and-go to perfection with Janes on the scoring end to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Bridgewater's final goal came in the 58th minute when the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick. Kevin Gorman beat the E&H goalie to put the Eagles on top 3-0.
Bridgewater goalkeeper TJ Martin recorded his first shutout of the season. Martin finished the contest with two saves. E&H keeper Josh Spencer tallied seven saves during the contest.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Washington and Lee for an important ODAC contest against the Generals. W&L is 5-3 overall and 2-1 in ODAC play. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
